About the appeal

I am hoping to raise money for the Medic to Medic charity by doing the Potters ‘Arf on June 14th 2009. As anyone who knows me will undoubtedly tell you, I am built for power events not speed, stamina or endurance activities. By doing the Potters ‘arf (allegedly one of the hilliest half’s in the country) I hope I will raise the profile of this charity and also fulfil its mission, by raising enough money to give prospective medical students the chance to make a difference in their Malawi.
A little about the charity:
The Medic to Medic programme was set up to help improve the health care provisions in Malawi by sponsoring trainee doctors, so that they can one day practise in their country. The lack of trained doctors in developing countries is obstructing the delivery of basic healthcare to the general population.
The Facts
Malawi , has 2 doctors per 100,000
The UK, has 230 doctors per 100, 000
Also in Malawi only 8% of paediatrician and 9% of obstetrician posts are filled. There is one neurosurgeon for the whole of the country.
Hence the importance of this charity’s work, and my desire to raise as much money as possible for this cause.
